Nagoya Congress Center

The Cop 10 conference on biodiversity is being held this month at the Nagoya Congress Center just south of Kanayama Station in Nagoya.



Nagoya Congress Center is close to Atsuta Shrine, Nagoya Gakuin University and the beautiful strolling garden of Shirotori Park.

The nearest stations to the Nagoya Congress Center are Nishi Takakura and Jingu Nishi on the Meijo Line of the Nagoya Subway and Hibino Station on the Meiko Line.

Japanese Woman in Nagoya

Japanese Woman Legs名古屋女

On a cold early December evening, we noticed a young woman waiting for a friend just outside Kanayama Station, Nagoya.

We were waiting for someone, too, and were struck by her light red skirt, black tights and top, and white bag with pink highlights.

The station area is fairly banal: aside from the Boston Museum on the other side, it is the usual mishmash of fast food, banks, telephone wires, and pachinko.

There is a small outdoor mall just behind where the woman is standing.

A view of the mall and beyond - with the requisite love hotel and English school - can be seen below.

Not sure which (if either) of these she was headed to.

The Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts, which opened in 1999, is the sister museum of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston (MFA).

The museum shows exhibitions from the collection of over 500,000 works of art in Boston and other world class exhibits. Located on the south side of Kanayama Station, the museum is located in a 31-story tower also containing the ANA Grand Court Hotel, Nagoya, and the Nagoya Urban Center.

The Nagoya/Boston Museum of Fine Arts occupies three floors with gallery spaces, a shop and resource library.

Upcoming exhibitions including Gauguin and 100 years of Noritake Design. Recent past exhibitions include The World of Claude Monet and an exhibition of artifacts commemorating the 150th anniversary of the U.S.-Japan Treaty of Amity and Commerce and the lives of Commodore Perry and Townsend Harris in Japan in the mid-nineteenth century.
