In the first half of 2009, according to the National Police Agency (NPA), 52,975 people were caught shoplifting.

That is a 4% rise on the first half of 2008.

Of those caught, 30% said that it "felt like playing a game."

41% of "non-regular" workers - i.e., non-full-time - in Japan do similar work as their full-time colleagues. However, only 16% of them are paid the same amount.
